Alternative Ways to Say 'I'm Stressed' in English - Improve Your Natural English Speaking Skills

Hi everyone! Thanks for joining me for another blog post! Today we will be having a short communication development lesson. We're going to learn lots of different ways to express that we are stressed - are you ready?

We all get stressed, that’s a completely normal feeling in our busy lives. But do you know how to say ‘I’M STRESSED’ in a different way? In this English communication lesson, I will teach you lots of useful and practical alternative ways to express your stress so that you can communicate more naturally and easily, just like a native speaker.

Click on the video below to watch and learn, and read the transcript underneath to check your understanding and revise today's lesson topic. Also, at the bottom of this post, you'll find a useful summary of the most important points to remember.

I hope that you enjoy this lesson - feel free to get in touch if you have any questions, I'm always happy to help.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE ABOVE VIDEO: Alternative Ways To Say 'I'm Stressed' in English - Improve Your Natural English Speaking Skills

Hi everyone, it's Nicole here, and I'm back answering another one of your questions.

We've had a great quest
ion this week. One of my students wanted to know how can I express that I am stressed, what's another way to say I'm stressed, because, you know, if you say I'm stressed, I'm stressed, I'm stressed, it could be a little bit, not negative, but we could be may be overdoing it sometimes, and we don't really, especially at work, want people to know how stressed we are.

So,
it's nice to sometimes use some alternative ways of expressing that stress, yeah, without using the word stress, I suppose. Would you like to hear them?

Ok. So, one that we could say
is I’M STRESSED OUT. I think you might have heard that one before. Another one could be I'M OVERWORKED, or I’M OVERSTRESSED, not a problem, or I CAN’T HANDLE THIS ANYMORE. That really means I am just at the extreme of stress, I can't do it anymore, or I DESPERATELY NEED A BREAK, again, there It means that you're right up here, to the point of exhaustion, the stress is just overpowering, it's time to step away, and have a break, have a rest.

I NEED TO DE-STRESS. So, that's when we're saying the stress is here, I need it to come down here. I'M ALL WORKED UP. That's when you're so stressed and anxious, and just all of these emotions at the same time. I'm all worked up. Or, … say that again, I'M COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED, in that situation it just means I have no idea what to do anymore, I'm so stressed that it's
it's at the end,

or you could even say
I'M STRESSED TO THE MAX and that means I'm at the maximum point of stress, I can't get any more stressed than I am now, or I NEED TO SWITCH OFF. That's a really important one and probably an expression that we should all learn and use more often, I need to switch off, just meaning it's time to relax, it's time to stop working, it's time to step away from this stressful environment and just to have some time for me, for myself, or I NEED TO WIND DOWN. That's another great one that we could use there.

So, there you go, some d
ifferent ways of saying I'm stressed, I'm stressed out, do use these or make an effort to use these the next time you are in a stressful situation, which I hope won't happen.

Anyway, have a lovely relax
ing day without any stress, and thank you for listening. Bye.

How was the learning video? Did it help you realise that there are a lot of great alternatives for the expression 'I'm stressed'? Do you have any favourites or any that you will be using from now on? I hope so!

Let me summarise the most important points for you to remember:

-I’M STRESSED OUT
-I'M OVERWORKED
-I’M OVERSTRESSED
-I CAN’T HANDLE THIS ANYMORE
-I DESPERATELY NEED A BREAK
-I NEED TO DE-STRESS
-I'M ALL WORKED UP
-I'M COMPLETELY OVERWHELMED
-I'M STRESSED TO THE MAX
-I NEED TO SWITCH OFF
-I NEED TO WIND DOWN

That's all the 'stress' expressions that you need to know - there are quite a few, aren't there! I hope that this video has been helpful and enjoyable for you and I look forward to teaching you a lot more helpful communication strategies and expressions in the new future.
